Marquette – The Beaumier Upper Peninsula Heritage Center will unveil a new “Cool-lections” exhibit on Thursday, November 3 at 7 p.m. at Northern Michigan University.

Director Dan Truckey will give a guided talk titled “Why Things Matter” at the opening reception in 105 Cohodas Hall.
The exhibit is composed of odd, fascinating and interesting artifacts from the center’s collection and from individuals throughout the community.

Truckey will discuss the importance of material culture and the symbolic and practical reasons that individuals collect such artifacts. Admission is free.

The center’s hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Saturday.

Marquette – A bake sale to raise money for the 2012 Marquette Scandinavian Midsummer Festival will be held on Thursday, November 3 from 9 a.m. to noon in the atrium at the Upper Peninsula Medical Center in Marquette.

Donations of baked goods will be accepted between 8 and 9 a.m. at the atrium the day of the sale. For more information, call 226-9350.
