Park opens 5 p.m. and parking is available.

1.5 miles of fun on skis, snowshoes or hiking boots, ending with “hot cocoa and cookies will be available in the Shelter Building next to a roaring fire.”

Marquette – The Superior Alliance for Independent Living will offer Pedaling With Superior on Friday, May 27 at 1:30 p.m. beginning at the SAIL office, 1200 Wright Street in Marquette.

All you need is a smiling face, a bike and a helmet. Handcycles are available to use at no charge. Bikes can be rented for a nominal fee.

Negaunee – The Seed Sowers, an ecumenical music ministry made up of men and women of all ages, will offer their spring revival “Choices” on Tuesday, May 17 at 7:30 p.m. at Mitchell United Methodist Church in Negaunee.

A free will offering will be taken and proceeds will go to Cancer Care of Marquette County, St. Vincent de Paul of Marquette and Republic, and the Greater Ishpeming Commission on Aging.

Blues For Life Cancer Benefit This Weekend In Marquette, MI

Carl Fulsher, Community Representative with the American Cancer Society, and Lorrie Hayes, Event Organizer, joined Mark Evans to talk about the upcoming Blues For Life Cancer Benefit. The event is scheduled for 5:oo pm this Saturday (May 7-th) at the Lagniappe Cajun Creole Restaurant in Downtown Marquette, MI.

This event will be the 5-th annual Blues For Life and will feature three blues bands, a Cajun dinner buffet, a silent auction, door prizes and more. The bands are: Fireside from Iron Mountain, MI, Flat Broke Blues Band from Marquette, MI and Captain Woody Boogie and the Pirates of Groove from Houghton, MI.

All proceeds will go to benefit the American Cancer Society and it’s Relay For Life effort. Tickets are $25.00 and can be purchased in advance at the Lagniappe and at The Screened Image in Downtown Marquette, MI.

The YMCA Of Marquette County Kicks Off Splash Week

Sam Crowley, Co-ordinator of Splash Week at the YMCA of Marquette County and Gary Gustafson, member of the City of Marquette’s Waterfront Safety Task Force, stopped by the studios this morning to preview Splash Week activities at the Y.

Crowley discussed several of the planned events connected to Splash Week, including water safety training and the various approaches the Y is taking to increase the awareness and skills of those who are going out on the water this summer.

Gustafson added findings of the Waterfront Safety Task Force and discussed how the YMCA is kicking off Splash Week with a presentation tonight at 7 o’clock at the Y in Marquette focusing on the task force and it’s findings.

Marquette – The annual Blues for Life cancer benefit will be held on Saturday, May 7 at Lagniappe in Marquette. Doors open at 5 p.m., and the $25 admission donation includes food, music and prizes.

Fireside from Iron Mountain, Captain Woody Boogie and the Pirates of Groove from Houghton and the Flat Broke Blues Band from Marquette will perform.

Also taking place that day will be the Ride for a Cure motorcycle ride-in, kicking off at Bald Eagle Harley Davidson in Marquette. The $25 donation per rider includes a T-shirt and bandana, and admission to Blues for Life.

Calendar – Community – Clothing Distribution in Rock – May 7

Rock – Faith Lutheran Church of Rock will host a clothing distribution program on Saturday, May from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the fellowship hall.

Spring and summer clothing of all sizes will be available to area residents. There is no charge for the clothing; however, freewill monetary donations will be accepted to benefit the community food pantry. Coffee will be served.

Donations of clean spring and summer clothing in good condition may be dropped off at the church between noon and 4 p.m. through Friday, May 6. All sizes, from infant through adult, are needed. To arrange a different drop-off time or for pickup of donations, call the church office at 356-6225.

Marquette – The Church Women United will celebrate May Friendship Day on Friday, May 6 from noon to 2 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, 927 West Fair Avenue, Marquette.

A potluck salad luncheon will be served. The theme will be “Living Our Friendship, Passing on the Key.”
