Marquette City Residents Can Increase The Efficiency Of Their Homes

MARQUETTE, MI – Great Lakes Radio News – A new federally-funded program is working to allow Marquette city residents to have the energy efficiency of their homes evaluated for possible improvements and receive some funds to help offset the expenses of making those improvements. The program is set up as a partnership between the Superior Watershed Partnership and the City of Marquette and is currently focusing on houses in South Marquette.

Natasha Koss with the Superior Watershed Partnership and Kerry Noble with Home Evaluation Services visited the Sunny Studios this morning to discuss the BetterBuildings for Michigan program with Walt Lindala. The pair outlined the various things that are looked at in evaluating the energy efficiency of a home and what steps you can do as a homeowner to make things better.

Marquette Township Hosting A National “Day” Out Event

MARQUETTE, MI – Great Lakes Radio News – A popular event designed to get neighbors and community members acquainted with their law enforcement, fire and rescue personnel is coming up this Saturday in Marquette. The Marquette Township Fire Department is hosting a “National Day Out” gathering as part of events going on at Lions Field.

Marquette Township Fire Department Captain and Township Board of Trustees Member Dan Pompo joined Sunny 101.9’s Mark & Walt in the Morning today to preview what’s going on this weekend. He outlined what departments will be taking part in the event and also what food items are being cooked up by the firemen for purchase by the general public.

The Secret Garden Blooms at the Lake Superior Theater

MARQUETTE, MI – Great Lakes Radio News – The children’s classic story “The Secret Garden” is being presented as a family-friendly musical at the Lake Superior Theater in Marquette, MI. The show features a large cast of multi-generational actors and is a mix of music and captivating storytelling.

Carrie Seavoy, the director and Allison Hyytinen, the show’s lead stopped by the Sunny Studios to discuss the play with Walt Lindala. The pair outlined the run of the show and what it’s about as well as experiences they’ve gained from doing the production. The show is being produced at the Frazier Boathouse Lake Superior Theater as other productions.

It’s Time For Italian Fest In Ishpeming, MI

MARQUETTE – (Great Lakes Radio News) – A very popular tradition in Marquette County continues this weekend with the annual St. Rocco’s-St.Anthony’s Italian Fest. This community picnic celebrating Italian food and culture runs from 12 noon to 7 pm tomorrow (Sat 7/30) at the Al Quaal Recreation Area in Ishpeming.

Event organizer Jim Bertucci joined Sunny 101.9’s Mark and Walt in the Morning today to promote this family-friendly and fun-filled event. Jim gave the event schedule and also talked about all of the food that will available to enjoy. He also talked about the musical entertainment for the day and the kids activities.

Marquette City Firefighters Fill The Boot For Muscular Dystrophy

MARQUETTE – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The annual “Fill the Boot” fund raiser to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association is coming this weekend. The event is hosted by the City of Marquette Fire Department and features firefighters stationed in busy street intersections throughout Marquette filling a rubber fire boot with cash donations from motorists.

Marquette City Firefighter Dean Mallos joined Sunny 101.9’s Mark and Walt in the Morning today to preview this popular activity. He outlined the schedule and location of the collection points and added that all of the funds raised go local M-D-A efforts and programs. The fund drive usually gathers over $10,000 each year.

Marquette Township Hosting Community Day At Lions Field In August

MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Marquette Township is hosting a full 0ut community day on Saturday, August 6th. The event will be held at Lions Field in the Township and will run from 11-am to at least 4-pm. Word is, though, that the event will continue past that posted time.

Township Manager Randy Girard stopped in at the Sunny 101.9 Studios this morning to chat with Mark and Walt in the Morning about the day’s events. He gave a complete run-down of the schedule and a good amount of background about how the overall restoration of Lions Field came to be.

Negaunee Little League 9-10 Boys Baseball Team Raising Funds As They Get Ready To Head Downstate

MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – A busy morning in the Sunny 101.9 Studios today as the Negaunee Little League 9-10 Boys Baseball team joined Mark and Walt in the Morning for a very special morning.

The young men are headed downstate later this week to play in the State Tournament in Harper Woods, MI. Scott Etelamaki, the team manager, along with several members of the team came on the show to ask for your financial support. Lake Superior Theater Presents The Love List

MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The Lake Superior Theater in Marquette, MI is presenting their latest production, “The Love List” over the next several days. Cast members Jeff Spencer and Jacob Barbot joined Walt Lindala this morning to chat about this funny romantic comedy.

Spencer, who plays the lead role in the production, and Barbot, who plays a key supporting role in the story, outlined what the play is about and explained why it would make for a great bit of entertainment on a date night.

They also made sure to let everyone know that the theater, located off of Lake Shore Drive in the Frazier Boathouse, does have air conditioning, so you can enjoy the show in comfort.
