Kelley O’Connor Performs at NMU March 23rd

Marquette, MI – Grammy Award-winning mezzo-soprano Kelley O’Connor will perform as part of Northern Michigan University’s Siril Concert Series at 7:30 pm on Saturday, March 23, at Reynolds Recital Hall. Admission is free.

O’Connor originated the role of Federico Garcia Lorca in Osvaldo Golijov’s Ainadamar. She performed under the baton of conductor Robert Spano for Atlanta Symphony performances of the opera and a Grammy-winning Deutsche Grammophon recording.

Her discography also includes Mahler’s Third Symphony with Jaap van Zweden and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Lieberson’s Neruda Songs with Robert Spano and the Atlanta Symphony, Adams’ The Gospel According to the Other Mary with Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with Franz Welser-Möst and the Cleveland Orchestra.

Woodland Sky Dance Company Performs at NMU

Marquette, MI – The Woodland Sky Native American Dance Company will perform at Northern Michigan University’s Forest Roberts Theatre on Friday, March 15. An educational performance for school classrooms, home-school groups and other educational organizations is scheduled for 11 am. A public performance will be held at 7:30 pm. Tickets for the evening event are $5 and there will be a meet and greet in the lobby of FRT following the performance.

Woodland Sky is made up of award-winning singers and dancers who span multiple generations, making their performance a family-friendly event. Singers and dancers in Woodland Sky proudly represent the following tribal nations: Ojibwe, Menominee, Potawatomi, Lakota and Apache.

This special concert features a history talk by MRHC Member Russ Magnaghi. Collaborating with the Cathedral, we will highlight Italian-American architectural sculptor, Corrado Giuseppe Parducci, who was responsible for much of St. Peter Cathedral’s beautification following the 1935 fire. Annie Humphrey Performs at NMU

Marquette, MI – Singer-songwriter Annie Humphrey, the Native American Music Awards’ 2018 Artist of the Year, will perform at Northern Michigan University on Saturday, February 16. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. in the James A. Panowski Black Box Theatre. Humphrey’s performance is being held in conjunction with the Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center’s exhibition, Ancestral Women. Tickets are $5 for the general public and $1 for NMU students.

Humphrey grew up on the Leech Lake Indian Reservation. Her father was a singer and musician and her mother an artist and poet, fueling Humphrey’s love for the arts. Although her parents were brilliant individually, she said they created sadness together.

“I lived in a home filled with voices made of thunder and nothing could stop it,” Humphrey said.
