Ishpeming – The 28th Annual Labor Day Festival will be held on Monday, September 4 beginning at 11 a.m. with a parade along Euclid, Main, and Division Streets and Lakeshore Drive in Ishpeming.

This year’s Parade Marshall will be Carolyn Hietamaki, newly retired from MNA. The theme for this year is “Working Together, Leading the Way”. A vast array of local affiliated unions will march together to celebrate the labor movement’s achievements.

After the parade, there will be a picnic and rally from noon to 4 p.m. at the Cliffs Shaft Mine Museum (Marquette Range Iron Mining Heritage Theme Park) and the Lake Bancroft Park on Lakeshore Drive and Euclid Streets. There will be music, speeches from candidates, union officials and children’s activities. In addition, Cliff Shaft volunteers will be providing free tours from noon to 2:00 p.m. for those that are interested in visiting the Museum.… Read the rest

Calendar – Holidays – 74th Annual Rock Lions Labor Day Celebration – Sept. 2

Rock – The 74th annual Rock Lions Labor Day Celebration will take place on Saturday, September 2 with the parade at 11 a.m. on the main street in Rock.

The parade theme is “UP Summers”. Following the parade there will be activities for all ages including music, a mechanical bull, bounce houses, pony rides and petting zoo, kids tractor pulls, a horseshoe tournament, bingo and cowpie bingo, a flea market, pasties, burgers, brats, and beer, all at the Rock Lions Clubhouse grounds on M-35 in Rock. Free vision screening will be offered for school-age children.

Calendar – Holidays – U.P. Steam and Gas Engine Association’s 42nd Annual Labor Day Weekend Show – Sept. 1-4

Escanaba – The U.P. Steam and Gas Engine Association’s 42nd Annual Labor Day Weekend Show will be held Friday, September 1 through Monday, September 4 at the U.P. State Fair Grounds in Escanaba.

Show hours are:
Friday, September 1: (Preview Day) noon to 5 p.m.
Saturday, September 2: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sunday, September 3: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Monday, September 4: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This year’s feature will be Ford, Fordson, and Ferguson equipment. Displays will include antique tractors, antique farming equipment, gas and steam engines, many demonstrations, and a daily tractor parade at 1 p.m. and the engine Crank UP will be at 2 p.m.

The Agricultural Museum will be open, as well as the Antique Village. There will be a flea market, a gun and knife show, and an antique auto show. Also, many food vendors will be on hand.… Read the rest

Munising – A Fourth of July Celebration will be held on Tuesday, July 4 beginning with a fun run at 7:30 a.m. at Bayshore Park in Munising.

Flag Raising will be at 10 a.m. at the All Veterans Memorial. A parade through downtown Munising will begin at 12:30 p.m. Following the parade, Bayshore Park will feature food, games, vendors and a beer tent.

A Pet Parade will be at 3:30 p.m. with contestants meeting at the courthouse at 3 p.m. Free ice cream will be offered at 4:15 p.m. at Peoples State Bank.

A Water Fight with the Munising Volunteer Fire Department will begin at 4:30 p.m. followed by a Grease Pole at City Pier.
