Pastor Installation Service at Messiah Lutheran April 14th

Marquette, MI – Pastor Andrew Plocher will be installed as the senior pastor of Messiah Lutheran Church (ELCA) on Sunday April 14 at 3 pm at the church. The community is welcome to attend the installation service and join the congregation in welcoming Pastor Andrew as he begins his ministry at Messiah. A reception will be held following the service.

Pastor Andrew Plocher has a BA in Studio Art (printmaking) from Carleton College in Northfield, MN; an M.Div from Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN; and a D.Min. in Pastoral Counseling from Louisville Seminary in Louisville, KY. In 2015, he and his wife, Dr. Anna Zimmer, moved to the Upper Peninsula when she began as an Assistant Professor in German and the Honors Program at Northern Michigan University (NMU). Previously, he served parishes in Gwinn, MI, greater Washington, DC, and Philadelphia, PA.

In addition to serving congregations, Pastor Andrew has served as interim Campus Pastor at NMU, a consultant and mediator with non-profits and congregations, presented and led workshops at national conferences, and worked as a faith-based community organizer. He has a passion for building community, wrestling with deep questions, and preaching and teaching. He is deeply committed to addressing issues of justice and poverty.

Faith and Climate Change Forum at Messiah Lutheran Church April 3rd

Marquette, MI – Messiah Lutheran Church is hosting a forum on faith and climate change Wednesday, April 3rd at 6:30 pm. Participants will explore the connections between faith and care for creation and how faith communities can work to prevent climate damage. The event will include information about the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America’s Creation Care Program and its partnership with EcoAmerica’s Blessed Tomorrow Program. There will also be a short presentation by Jordan Matterella, an NMU student who is a water steward with the Northern Great Lakes Water Initiative.

Messiah Lutheran Blue Christmas Worship – December 9

Marquette, MI  –  November 30, 2018  –  Messiah Lutheran will be holding a Blue Christmas worship service on Sunday, December 9th at 3:00 pm. This service is for anyone who has lost a loved one, recently or in the past, or for anyone who finds the holidays to be a hard season to get through. All are welcome to attend.

Meet the Bishop Day Mass and Dinner – Reservation Deadline – May 25

Marquette, Mich. – Meet the Bishop Day Mass and Dinner, hosted by the Most Reverend John F. Doerfler and sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, will be held on Sunday, June 3 beginning at 4 p.m. with a Mass at St. Louis the King Church, 264 Silver Creek Road, Marquette.

Following the mass, there will be a catered dinner in the parish hall. The event is open to individuals with disabilities and their families/caregivers.

Negaunee – An Ecumenical Good Friday service, with participation by several congregations, will be held on Friday, March 30 from noon to 3 p.m. at Mitchell United Methodist Church in Negaunee.

This services will remember Jesus’ 7 last words from the cross. Although this will be one 3-hour service, you may come and go, as needed. There will be natural pauses between each word.

Marquette – An Ecumenical Good Friday worship service, with participation by several congregations on Friday, March 30 from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church, 305 W. Magnetic Street, Marquette.

The service will be divided into several small segments. Come for part of the service, or stay the entire time. There will be special music, scripture readings, inspirational messages, and time for personal reflection.

Those wishing to sing in the ecumenical choir should gather for rehearsal in the fellowship hall at noon. The entire service will be broadcast live on 101.9 Sunny FM.
