Marquette – Inspired Words Open Mic will be offered on Monday, August 7 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Marquette Arts and Culture Center Workshop #3 on the lower level of the Peter White Public Library.

Authors, poets, songwriters and listeners are invited. Share some of your recent work, be inspired by other writers and get feedback from the listening audience. The presentations will not be judged. Presentations are open to all genres of writing as long as the material is suitable for all ages, unplugged and original work.

Curtis – Comedy Night with David Dyer and Jimmy Roberson will be held on Saturday, July 29 at 7:30 p.m. at the Erickson Center for the Arts in Curtis. Doors open at 7 p.m.

Jimmy Roberson will start the show and then David Dyer will take the stage. David has worked with some of the best performers in the industry, including Drew Carey, Lewis Black and Kathleen Madigan. In addition, he’s appeared regularly on the nationally syndicated “The Bob and Tom Show”. The show is rated PG-13.

Marquette – The D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans Old Car Show will be held on Wednesday, July 19 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the back parking lot near the greenhouse and solarium of the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans.

Most participating cars are from the Pasty Crew Car Club but anyone is welcome to bring their old vehicle. This has been an annual event for more than 20 years and the veterans at the Home look forward to reminiscing about the vehicles and talking cars with other enthusiasts. … Read the rest

Marquette – BookNotes Coffeehouse, an evening of conversation, poetry, music and refreshments, will be held on Tuesday, July 18 at 7 p.m. in the Community Room of the Peter White Public Library.

John Smolens, author of numerous novels including Wolf’s Mouth, One Book One Community’s 2017 selection, will interview three poets: Keith Taylor, Cindy Hunter Morgan, and Thomas Lynch. The evening will be rounded out with the acoustic, folksy yet eccentric, music of Kerry Yost and Dylan Trost. Snowbound Books will be there for book sales and signing, and the Peter White Library will provide light refreshments.
