More than 200 Participate in Marquette Turkey Trot Run / Walk November 26
Sleet and blustery winds Thanksgiving morning did not keep more than 200 runners and walkers from participating in Marquette Area Public Schools’ Turkey Trot 5K and 10K. A record of approximately $2,000 was raised for Marquette Senior High School Orchestra student activities, with additional funds netted through sale of student-designed T-shirts for MSHS’s Business Professionals of America Club. Canned food items were also donated for the TV6 Canathon.
The six overall winners, listed below, received trophies, while the first 200 finishers received ribbons.
In the 5K, the overall male winner was Mickey Sanders of Marquette with a time of 16:23; and the female winner was Olivia Juntila, also of Marquette, in 19:03. The first dog in the 5K was Lucy, a golden doodle running with Mike Haynes of Ishpeming in 21:40.
In the 10K, the overall male winner was Tracy Lokken of Marquette with a time of 31:34; and the female winner was Tammy O’Brien of Ishpeming in 43:24. The first dog in the 10K was Lily, a mutt running with Cary Gottlieb of Negaunee, in a time of 47:20.
Other highlights: Several of the participants braved the weather wearing running shorts, and an adult-sized chicken completed the 5K course in an impressive 21 minutes.
The organizers wish to thank the many parent, student, and community volunteers, supporters and event sponsors for making the Turkey Trot possible.
