Readers Theater May 5

Marquette – The Peter White Public Library Readers Theater will read “Private Lives” by Noel Coward on Tuesday, May 5 at 7 p.m. in the Dandelion Cottage Room of the library.
Readers Theater is a group of adults, who are interested in drama and are willing and able to read a scripted role. They meet on the first Tuesday of each month. New members are always welcome.

Ishpeming – SORRY…SOLD OUT!!The Air Force “Shades of Blue Jazz Band” will perform a free concert on Thursday, May 21 at 7 p.m. at Peterson Auditorium in Ishpeming.
Doors open at 6:15 p.m. and all ticket holders should be in their seats by 6:45 p.m.
Tickets are available first come, first served and are available at the Mining Journal offices in Marquette and Ishpeming. Limit: 4 per person.

Marquette – Tisket-A-Tasket Gift Basket Auction will be held on Wednesday, May 6 at the Marquette Golf and Country Club.
Preview is at 5 p.m. The auction begins at 6 p.m. and the Grand Prize Drawing will be held at 8 p.m.
Bid on a “Big Give” basket and help support Marquette County's Women's Center Capital Campaign for the Domestic Violence Shelter.
There will also be bucket drawings throughout the event.

Escanaba – The 2nd Annual Chilly Chase 5K benefit run for the American Red Cross will be held on Saturday, May 16 in Ludington Park in Escanaba.
Check-in and late registration will be from 8 to 9:45 a.m. with the race beginning at 10 a.m.
Late registration fee is $20. Upper Peninsula Road Runners Club members receive a $2 discount.
Proceeds from the event support the training, coordination and maintenance of the Red Cross Disaster Action Team and support health and safety education programs.

Skandia – Skandia-West Branch Fire Department will host their 25th Annual Fireman's Ball on Saturday, May 9 from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Live entertainment will be provided by country music band Trailer Hitch.
There is a $10 cover charge at the door.
Included in the event will be free refreshments and snacks. There will also be door prizes, bucket raffles and ticket raffle prizes.

Spring World Hunger Gathering May 3

Rock – Spring World Hunger Gathering will be held on Sunday, May 3 beginning with registration at 1 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Rock.
Participants will have the opportunity to walk or ride bikes for monetary or canned food pledges, and to learn about current programs to aid the hungry around the world.
The “Miles for Meals” walk and bike rides will begin at 1:15 p.m.
Worship, presentations and a picnic style supper will follow at 5 p.m.

Carnival in Ishpeming April 30-May 2

Ishpeming – The Skerbeck Brothers Carnival will be in downtown Ishpeming, beginning on Thursday, April 30 at 4 p.m.
The carnival will open on Friday, May 1 at 4 p.m. and on Saturday, May 2 at 11 a.m.
There will be rides, games and food. The carnival will donate a portion of the proceeds to Bay Cliff Health Camp.
