Marquette – The Peter White Public Library is seeking groups and individuals to participate in its annual holiday display featuring artificial trees and wreaths decorated in a variety of creative themes by community organizations, school classes, businesses, and families from across Marquette County.

Reduced Rate Mammograms in October

Marquette – To encourage women to receive yearly check-ups and mammograms, Marquette General Hospital and Excalibur Medical Imaging are teaming up to offer reduced-rate mammograms with interpretation during October.

The total cost for a bilateral mammogram with interpretation is $50. A written order from a physician is required to schedule a mammogram.

Mammograms will be offered at Marquette General hospital, Marquette Medical Clinic – Escanaba, Doctors Park Family Physicians and Marquette Medical Clinic – Kingsford.

North American Food Drive Charity Tailgate Pork Roast Oct. 4

Marquette – Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity will sponsor a North American Food Drive charity tailgate pork roast Saturday, October 4 behind the Superior Dome in Marquette.

The event will be from noon until the start of the Northern Michigan University vs. Saginaw Valley football game.

For a donation of five canned goods or $5, guests will receive pork sandwiches, side dishes and drinks. There will be DJ music, prize drawings, and games. In the event of rain, tents will be set up.

North Country Trail Hikers Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore Hikers Challenge Oct. 17

Munising – The North Country Trail Hikers will participate in the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore Hikers Challenge on Friday, October 17.

They will hike from Miners Falls to Munising plus Munising Falls, Sand Point Maritime Trail, Sand Point Marsh Trail, Miners Castle Day Hike, Miner Falls Trail, Miners River Trail and Miners Beach Trail for approximately 10.58 miles.

Fall Bazaar Oct. 4

Champion – Our Redeemer Lutheran Church of Champion-Michigamme, U.S. 41 in Champion, will host a fall bazaar on Saturday, October 4 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

YMCA Annual Dinner Dance Oct. 11

Marquette – The YMCA of Marquette County annual dinner dance will take place on Saturday, October 11 at the Y in Marquette. The event will have a tailgate party theme.

The evening will include a 5:30 p.m. social hour with a cash bar, dinner, live auction and dancing.

Auction items will include: a Holiday Inn pool party, a pig roast at Marquette Mountain, a family fishing trip, and more.

The Packer ticket raffle drawing will be at 8 p.m.

Tickets cost $15 and are available from any Y board member or at the Marquette and Negaunee facilities. Proceeds will benefit the Strong Kids Scholarship Campaign.

Sonderegger Symposium Oct. 2

Marquette – The eighth annual Sonderegger Symposium will be held on Thursday, October 2 at Northern Michigan University.

The event will kick off with an 8 a.m. continental breakfast. Presentations will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Mead Auditorium.

Sixteen presentations on Upper Peninsula topics will be featured, including “Marquette and the Spanish Flu of 1918,” “Yoopers in Alaska in the Great Depression,” and “Politics in the U.P. in the late 20th Century.”

Robert Archibald will give the keynote address at 7:30 p.m. in Reynolds Recital Hall. He will present “Sense of Community and the Upper Peninsula.”

Harvey – St. Louis the King Church in Harvey will be having a Fish fry on Friday, October 24 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. in Gauthier Hall.
