YMCA End of School Overnight Party

Marquette – The YMCA in Marquette will host an End of School Year Overnight Party from 11 p.m. Saturday, June 7 to 9 a.m. Sunday, June 8 for youths who have completed seventh and eighth grades.

Activities will include swimming, messy games, movies, air band competitions and karaoke. A light snack will be provided.

The cost is $30 for YMCA members and $45 for others. Space is limited. Registration deadline is Thursday, June 5.

GEAR UP Program at NMU

Marquette – Northern Michigan University will host GEAR UP (Gaining Early Access And Readiness For Undergraduate Programs), a free pre-college enrichment program for eighth and ninth graders from Wells Township School, Polaris/North Star Academy and Gwinn Middle and High schools, June 22-28.

Participants will stay in an NMU residence hall, with meals and snacks provided. NMU students will serve as round-the-clock chaperones.

The program is designed to get students thinking about college and help them realize how accessible higher education is for them.

Applications are available online or from school guidance counselors. Registration deadline is June 13.

Vietnam Veterans Michigan Moving Wall in Negaunee June 10-12

Negaunee – Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 154 will have the Michigan Moving Wall on display June 10 through 12 at the Negaunee Township Hall.

The Michigan Moving Wall is a memorial to the men and women from Michigan who lost their lives in the Vietnam War.

Flag Day Service June 14

Marquette – The American Legion, Richard M. Jopling Post #44 will hold Flag Day Services on Saturday, June 14 at 6 p.m. at the Post, 700 W. Bluff Street in Marquette.

All members of Post 44 and the Marquette Community are welcome to attend.

Anyone who has a flag that is damaged or unserviceable is asked to bring it to the Post. Flags can be dropped off at the Post prior to the event if you cannot attend the service.

Christian Women’s Connection Brunch June 12

24th Annual Gladstone World Hunger Run June 7

Gladstone -The 24th Annual Gladstone World Hunger Run will be held on Saturday, June 7 beginning at 10 a.m. at All Saints Church in Gladstone.

A 5k run/walk will be held on Gladstone city streets with divisions for all ages.

A pancake breakfast will be served to participants and awards will be given for the top three male and female runners in each age division.

This is a great family event.

Youth Fitness Certification Course

Negaunee – Bell Memorial YMCA in Negaunee is offering a Youth Fitness Certification Course on Saturday, June 7 from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

The hands-on course is for youth age 12 to 16 and is designed to provide participants the skills and knowledge to use exercise equipment in a safe manner.

A registration form must be completed by a parent or guardian. Registration deadline is Friday, June 6. Fees are $16 for YMCA members and $32 for non-members.

Horsemanship Clinic June 7-8

The sale will be offered from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The seminar will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, with speaker Dave Gafner from Flinn's Flowers and Garden Center in Escanaba. A question and answer session will be held on roses, shrubs, perennials and pruning.

Tickets are $5 for the seminar and will be available at the door.
