Marquette – A World Day of Prayer 2010 ecumenical celebration of informed prayer will be held on Friday, March 5 at First United Methodist Church, 111 East Ridge Street in Marquette.
The service has written by the women of Cameroon, West Africa, with the theme “Let Everything That Has Breath Praise God.”
Sponsored by Church Women United, the service will begin at noon with a soup luncheon. Come experience Africa in Miniature with music and prayer in celebratation and praise of God.

Marquette – The Marquette Baha’i community will sponsor its annual Ayyam-i-Ha Party on Sunday, February 28 from 2 to 4:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the Peter White Library in Marquette.
Baha’is celebrate the festival of Ayyam-i-Ha each year through acts of love, fellowship, unity, charity and good will. As part of celebrating this festival, the Marquette Baha’is sponsor this family-oriented Ayyam-i-Ha party for the public.
The theme this year is “Hats off to Humanity.” Attendees may wear a hat or make one at the party. Music, crafts, henna tattooing and other activities will be offered, along with light refreshments. The drumming group Log Jam will perform at 3:30 p.m. Nonperishable food items will be accepted for donation to a local food bank.

Sands -Shiloh Baptist Church 664 Dahlstrom Road, Sands Township, is hosting its annual Marriage and Family Strengthening conference Thursday, February 25 through Sunday, February 28.
Meetings will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Sunday, and at 4 p.m. for the Saturday adults only meeting. The Saturday meeting will include a a question and answer session, and a $5 per plate banquet.
Speakers include Shiloh’s Rev. Mac G. Woody and the Rev. Gerald Chadwick of Central Baptist Church in Amarillo, Texas.

Kim Schuster will be the speaker, talking about plants of the Bible and how they were used by people for food, healing and cleaning. The group will also be making soap.

Marquette – American Legion Richard M. Jopling Post 44 of Marquette will observe Four Chaplains Sunday on February 7 at 2 p.m. at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans Chapel, with a ceremony commemorating the four heroic Chaplains who died when the USS Dorchester was torpedoed during World War II.
The Post Everlasting ceremonies will follow to honor the passing of the comrades from Post 44 who have died during the past year. Family and friends are invited to attend.
Following the services, the American Legion Auxiliary will serve coffee and cake.

Marquette – People of all faiths are invited to Messiah Lutheran Church, an ELCA congregation, to a special adult forum on Sunday, January 10 at 10 a.m.
This hour will feature a discussion lead by retired NMU philosophy professor, Don Driesbach. Using the book, Honoring Our Neighbors’ Faith, he will look at the major religions in the world and some of the larger Christian denominations in North America.
Discussion will offer a look at history, size, demographic locations and the similarities and differences other denominations have with ELCA Lutherans. Marquette – Shalom, an ecumenical service intentional in its emphasis on social justice, will be held on Sunday, January 10 at 7 p.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church on Presque Isle Avenue in Marquette.
This service promotes advocacy for peace among all denominations and peoples. At Shalom, participants will be challenged and awakened. The service will be led community faith members who will lead the group in dialogues that will allow for reflection on personal and communal faith journeys and share visions for the year 2010.
After the service, a fellowship coffee hour is offered. A free-will offering will be collected and donated to a local charity. Shalom is open to all ages. Supervised activities for children will be available.

Harvey – An Interfaith Community Thanksgiving Service will be held on Tuesday, November 24 at 7 p.m. at the
Marquette Unitarian Universalist Meeting House, 1510 M-28, 2.5 mi. east of the intersection of M-28 and 41 in Harvey.
This is the annual greater Marquette interfaith Thanksgiving gathering led by religious leaders of various faiths in the community. All are welcome.
An interfaith choir will rehearse an anthem at 6 p.m. for the service. Jeanne Trost will direct the choir in Andy Beck’s “Let There Be Peace.” Sheila Devlin will accompany.
There will be a special offering for the program which aids in the continuation of the education of the Anishinaabe language.
A drop-off box will be available for food for the TV6 Canathon.
