Marquette – Northern Michigan University’s Public Relations Student Society of America and Marquette Mountain will hold the Third Annual Ski and Snowboard Competition “Jam 4 Love,” a charity ski and snowboard rail jam on Sunday March 14 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Marquette Mountain.

There will be three divisions for all ages and experience levels. Advanced registration forms can be picked up at Northern Michigan Universitys University Center room 1205. There will also be registration the day of at Marquette Mountain. Registration is $10 for Marquette Mountain season pass holders and $15 for non-season pass holders. All proceeds will be going to Teaching Family Homes.

Sands – A spaghetti dinner fundraiser for Jordan Adediran will be held on Saturday, March 13 from 3 1o 8 p.m. at the Crossroads Restaurant in Sands.

The dinner is to help fund his trip to MSU in Lansing to participate in the All Star Football Game. Dinner is $5 per person and there will be a bake sale as well.

Marquette – An introductory tai chi chuan workshop will be offered on Saturday, March 13 from 9:30 a.m. to noon at Grace United Methodist Church, 927 W. College Avenue, Marquette.

Tai chi is a gentle exercise-based on the movements of animals and metaphor that has proven to enhance the immune system, improve balance, and increase flexibility.

Cost is $25, with proceeds to benefit the Cedar Tree Institute, a nonprofit organization that provides services and initiates projects in the areas of mental health, religion and the environment.

Ishpeming – St. John’s Parish in Ishpeming will host a St. Patrick’s Day Auction Adventure on Saturday March 13 with a social hour beginnning at 5:30 p.m., and dinner at 6:30 p.m.

Entertainment will be provided by Julie and Dave Williams. Tickets cost $10 in advance, $12 at the door. Advance tickets are available at St. John’s Parish office.

Proceeds from the event will assist the survivors of the earthquake in Haiti.

Negaunee – Brownie Troop 5044 of the Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes Council will have a Cookie Booth at the Negaunee SuperOne, next to the check out lines on Friday, March 12 from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Saturday, March 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Each box is $3.50 and all flavors will be available.

Marquette – The Marquette American Legion Blues/Reds baseball teams will sponsor their annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser on Thursday, March 11 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at American Legion Post 44, 700 W. Bluff Street in Marquette.

Ishpeming – A Texas Hold’em Charity Tournament Benefiting Ishpeming and Negaunee High School Bowling Team will be held on Thursday, March 11 at the Country Lanes and Entertainment Center in Ishpeming.

Registration is at 6 p.m. with the tournament beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Cost is a $30 buy in with 75% pay back. Cash Games will also be played. You must be 18 to play.

Eben Junction – A dress and clothing recycle drive will be held on Saturday, February 27 from 2 to 5 p.m. in the art room of Superior Central High School in Eben Junction.

Clothing may be brought to the high school office or during basketball games. Any dresses in wearable shape, jeans, t-shirts, sweatshirts, sweatpants, leggings etc. will be accepted in any size. Also accessories such as hats and belts will be accepted.

The Superior Central High School Junior Class is hosting this fundraiser to earn money for the 2010 Prom and Class of 2011.

Crystal Falls – The Crystal Falls Contemporary Center, 200 Superior Avenue,Crystal Falls, will host its annual soup and bowl fundraiser on Saturday, February 27 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. CST

Guests may choose a one-of-a-kind bowl and fill it with chili or soup for $15. An empty bowl costs $10, and lunch without a bowl purchase costs $5.

Marquette – NMU hockey fans will have the chance to help the Marquette County Humane Society on Saturday, February 27 at the Wildcats hockey game at the Berry Events Center.

There will be volunteers at the doors who will accept “wish list” items that can be used at the shelter. Some of those items include:

Marquette – A benefit spaghetti dinner for Michael Scheiwe will be held on Friday, February 26 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Graveraet Intermediate School, 611 N. Front Street in Marquette.

There will be homemade meat and vegetarian spaghetti sauces, salad, garlic bread and dessert.

Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children and will be available at the door. Advance tickets are available by calling 225-4302, ext. 108.

A silent auction will be held in the Graveraet gym from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. A 50/50 raffle will be drawn at 7:45 p.m. Open mic, featuring local musicians will be in the gym throughout the event.

Michael Scheiwe, a Graveraet program aide, has been diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and has no insurance. All proceeds from this benefit will go toward his medical expenses.

Marquette – The Superior Upper Peninsula Chapter of the American Red Cross is sponsoring its annual soup sale fundraiser in conjunction with the Heroes for the American Red Cross fundraiser campaign.

Soups include hearty chili, tomato basil, and turkey and rice, and are prepared by culinary arts students at Northern Michigan University under the direction of Chris Kibit, hospitality management professor.

Hancock – The Finlandia University Physical Therapist Assistant student club will host a “Shoes 4 Kids” pancake breakfast on Sunday, February 20 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Finlandia Hall Cafe in the University’s residence hall.

A bake sale will also be held. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase. Cost for the breakfast is $5 per person and free for children four and younger.

Those attending who bring a new pair of tennis shoes, size newborn to 13 years, will be entered into a drawing for a great prize. The shoes will be donated locally and to children in Haiti.

Negaunee – A benefit spaghetti dinner for the children of A. J. Karvonen will be held on Saturday, February 20 beginning at 2 p.m. at the Negaunee Eagles Club on Main Street in Negaunee.

There will be a live auction and a 50/50 raffle. Tickets for the dinner are $6 for adults, and $3 for children 10 and under. Proceeds will go to the benefit of Gatlin and Cash Karvonen, whose father A.J. Karvonen died as a result of a tragic motorcycle accident in September 2009.

Monetary donations for the Karvonens can be dropped off at the Negaunee Eagles.
