Big Bay – The Liberty Children’s Art Project will offer the second session of its art camp for children 6 and older Monday through Friday, August 9 through 13 at the Powell Township School Outdoor Studio, 101 Deutsch Street, Big Bay.
Classes for first through fifth graders meet from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. and include Egyptian Mummy Art and Fabric Dye Creations.
Classes for sixth through 12 graders meet from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and feature Continuing Throwing Pots on the Potter’s Wheel, Creating Sculpture with Recycled Materials and Silk Painting.

Marquette – A Fused Glass Workshop, for ages 13 and up, will be offered on Saturday, July 31 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Marquette Arts and Culture Center in the lower level of the Peter White Public Library in Marquette.
Discover the basics of glass fusing and create your own fused glass sun-catcher or tile. No glass cutting experience required.
Registration is $10 for city residents, $15 for non-residents, and a $20 lab fee for all.

Marquette – A Fused Glass Workshop for ages 13 and up will be offered on Saturday, May 29 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Marquette Arts and Culture Center on the lower level of the Peter White Public Library in Marquette.
Create your own glass 6″x 6″ tile while learning the basics of glass fusing. No glass cutting experience required. Beth Cox will be the instructor. Registration is $10 for city residents and $15 for non-residents. Lab fee is $20, which includes all materials.

Marquette – “George Shiras III: Nighttime Wildlife Photography” will be presented on Friday, May 21 at 1 p.m. in Mead Auditorium in the West Science Building at Northern Michigan University.
Local photographer and collector Jack Deo will discuss Shiras’ techniques and photographs. Buck LaVasseur, host of the television show “Discovering,” will show a video recreation of Shiras’ techniques.
This presentation is in conjunction with the Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center and DeVos Art Museum’s exhibition on Shiras’ work, May 20 through August 2 in 105 Cohodas Hall.

Marquette – “A Fleury of Photos,” an exhibit featuring works by Fred Fleury, is on display through May 29 in the Huron Mountain Gallery at Peter White Public Library.
The show features images from Fleury’s travels to the Alaskan wilderness as well as local photos from around Lake Superior. The collection includes bears, whales, lighthouses and scenes from Marquette’s Lower Harbor.
Fleury, a retired physician, sells his work at Ben Franklin and Michigan Fair, with a percentage of the proceeds donated to Parkinson’s disease research. For more information, call 226-9613.

Marquette – An artist reception for “InterLinked,” an exhibit of works by Interlochen Arts Academy visual arts students and faculty, will be held on Friday, May 7 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Oasis Gallery, 130 W. Washington Street, Marquette.
The exhibit features painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, photography, fibers, ceramics and metalsmithing. The faculty is comprised of passionate, accomplished artists. The eshibit will be on display through May 29.

Covington – The U.P. Made Artist Market will open May 1 for the summer/fall season. The art gallery and market place room are located in the historic Covington School in Covington. Market hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays.

Marquette – The Marquette Downtown Development Authority is seeking entries from area residents of all ages and skill levels for its Blueberry Festival Poster Contest.
The winning entry will be determined by an online vote open to the public. Voting will take place May 10 through May 19 at www.downtownmarquette.org.
The winning design will be reproduced as a full-color, limited edition 10×13-inch poster. Original artwork in any medium is welcome, but artwork should not be larger than 11×17 inches and must not have been previously reproduced.
The winning poster will debut prior to the festival, which is scheduled for Friday, July 30. All entries will be on exhibit at the Marquette Arts and Culture Center throughout July.
The entry deadline is Friday, April 30. Bring or mail entries to the Marquette Downtown Development Authority, 203 S. Front St., Suite 1-B, Marquette, MI 49855. Marquette – The Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center will host a reception and program for its current photography exhibit, “People, Place and Time: Michigan’s Copper Country Through the Lens of J.W. Nara” on Friday, April 30 in 105 Cohodas Hall at Northern Michigan University.
The reception begins at 2 p.m., followed by a 3 p.m. program featuring Erik Nordberg, archivist for the Michigan Tech University Archives and Copper Country Historical Collections.
The Nara exhibition will be on display through May 20. The Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Marquette – In conjunction with the “Mostly Michigan” photography exhibit at the DeVos Art Museum at Northern Michigan University, NMU professor Christine Flavin will give a talk on the history of social documentary photography on Friday, April 9 at 2 p.m. in Room 165 of the NMU Art and Design Building.
From Henry Mayhew’s “London Labour and London Poor” of 1840 to Abu Ghraib of 2004, Flavin will discuss how the portrayal of the underprivileged has changed in the post-colonial political arena with digital and cell phone camera technology.
The “Mostly Michigan” exhibit is on display through May 16.

Marquette – The Marquette Area Public Schools Spotlight on the Arts program will be presented on Tuesday, March 30 at 7 p.m. in the Marquette Senior High School gym.
Featured at the annual extravaganza will be musical performances and artwork by MAPS elementary, middle, and high school students.
During the concert the gymnasium is dark, except for a spotlight on the soloist or ensemble that is performing. When one performance finishes, the spotlight goes out, an a light goes in a different location, where another performance begins, with applause held until the end of the program.
Admission costs $5 for adults, $3 for students, $12 per family and is free for senior citizens.
