Equestrian Groups Frustrated with DNR

February 18, 2008

At the recent Michigan Natural Resource Users Rally at the Ramada Inn in Marquette, Norm Seppe, a Michigan equestrian enthusiast expressed concern about the Department of Natural Resources decision to close several equestrian campgrounds state-wide.Numerous state parks have in total around 170 miles of horse trails and certain parks have specific camping areas for equestrian campers. According to Seppe, equestrian groups across the state volunteered and paid for most of the work done to create these sites, including constructing water wells at some cost. The groups were frustrated with the recent increase in fees to both ride those trails and to camp at those parks – but the decision to close several campgrounds all together led them to speak out at the rally about the DNR.
