Calendar – Community – Al Roker to Broadcast Live on the Today Show from the Superior Dome – Mar. 28

March 25, 2017

Marquette – Al Roker will broadcast live from the Superior Dome at Northern Michigan University during NBC’s Today show on Tuesday, March 28.

There will be an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest game of freeze tag. Community members are encouraged to support this rare opportunity to showcase Marquette and NMU before a national audience. They are invited to fill the Superior Dome as spectators for Tuesday’s broadcast and greet Roker at Sawyer International Airport on Monday, March 27.

Spectators must arrive at the Superior Dome by 6 a.m. Tuesday and plan to stay through 8:45 a.m., when the Today show segment ends. Green and gold apparel is encouraged. There will be refreshments and donut holes, poster-making stations, giveaways and an opportunity to appear on national television. Advance registration is requested at nmu.edu/mc/world-record.

Roker is visiting five universities across the country attempting to set different world records as part of the week-long “Rokerthon 3” series on the Today show. His private plane is expected to touch down at Sawyer at 12:54 p.m. Monday (any schedule change will be announced by NMU). Please note that residents should follow the signs to Sawyer’s general aviation terminal, not the passenger terminal, to greet Roker. Wildcat Willy and NMU cheerleaders will join the welcoming party.

The Today show crew will shoot advance footage of NMU, the community, Roker’s arrival and his tour of various campus locations for an edited package to air during the broadcast.
