Negaunee – An Iron Ore Heritage Trail bike tour will be offered on Thursday, July 18 beginning at 10 a.m. with an orientation at the Carp River Forge Site at the Michigan Iron Industry Museum in Negaunee.
The tour route is approximately 15 miles. From the museum, bikers will travel westward toward the Jackson Mine in Negaunee, where miners broke up and transported the ore that was smelted at the Carp River forge. The tour will continue to Ishpeming and return to the museum, with several stops along the way. Lunch will be provided by Midtown Bakery and Cafe on the return trip.
The fee is $20 per participant, which includes lunch and a Michigan Iron Industry Museum souvenir. Pre-registration is required, and space is limited. Registration forms are available online at www.michigan.gov/ironindustrymuseum.
